David Tames talks with artist Camila Chaves Cortes about Postcards from the Big Dig, a historic photography and painting/collage exhibition on display at the Paul Dietrich Gallery at Cambridge Seven Associates (1050 Massachusetts Avenue, Cambridge, MA, 617.492.7000).
The exhibition runs through January 31, 2006 and the artist will be holding a speaking event at the gallery, "Transformation of Cities: Boston and Berlin," on Thursday, January 26, 2006 from 12 - 1:00 pm.
On display are over 40 pieces that document the magical and mythological spaces of Boston's Big Dig, combining photography, oils, color fabrics, and construction materials.
This collection is a follow-up to her photographs of Berlin, documenting the other major turn-of-the-century urban renovation project.

Colin Owens and David Tames talk with artists Anna Shapiro and Davyde X about The Displacement Boxes, performance work that was part of the ProvFlux Conference in Providence, Rhode Island and also performed in Rio de Janeiro hosted by the Centro Coreográfico do Rio (Rio Choreographic Center). The work, based on the myth of Sisyphus, entails Anna dragging mylar covered boxes through several outdoor locations and Davyde's documentation of the performance using both video and photography. A slide show is available.
David Tames talks with artist Tova Speter at her opening reception on December 17, 2005 at the True Grounds cafe in Somerville, Massachusetts. Her unique paintings on display started out as a piece of plywood rescued from the trash and then by choosing colors and following the natural grain of the wood she creates beauty from these found objects.
Colin Owens and David Tames talk with artist Pablo Gonzalez on location at the opening reception of SACRIFICIOS on December 1, 2005. His installation and paintings explore Chicano culture and issues of family, identity, and sexuality and are on exhibit at the Cambridge Multicultural Arts Center through December 23, 2005.
Guest interviewer Alice Apley talks with photographer Lou Jones about his six-year personal project working with Lorie Savel interviewing and photographing the men and women on death rows in the United States. In 2002, the American Friends Service Committee published Final Exposure: Portraits from Death Row, an expanded second edition of the book that grew out of the project. The exhibit debuted at Boston's National Center of Afro-American Artists in 2003 and has travelled to other museums around the country. The exhibit is currently at the Bunker Hill Community College Art Gallery through December 23, 2005.
