David Tamés talks with Ryan Evans about comics, their language, their recent resurgence, and some aspects of their history. Recently, artists including Chris Ware, Robert Crumb, Dan Clowes, Harvey Pekar, and Joe Sacco have enjoyed a resurgence due to the popularity of adult graphic novels. Some of this has to do with movie adaptations, Ryan-Draw-v3 both superhero (The Incredible Hulk, Spiderman) and non-superhero (American Splendor, Ghost World), and book stores catering to specialized audiences and rise of the internet. Evans has taught film studies at the Art Institute of Boston at Lesley University and has lectured on the language and history of comics at the Maine College of Art and at the Cambridge Center for Adult Education, where he has two upcoming events: a lecture titled "Superheros on the Silver Screen" on February 18, 2006, and "Reading Comics," a course scheduled for the Spring term (March, 2006).
