ArtFilmDesign #2 - October 11, 2005

October 11th, 2005

David Tamés talks with artist Bren Bataclan about his Smile Boston Project. Two years ago, Bren began leaving his paintings of happy, whimsical, characters all over the Boston area for people to take with a note that says the painting is free if you promise to smile at strangers more often. Bren regularly exhibits his art work in galleries. Before becoming a painter Bren worked as a graphic designer in the dot-com world and prior to that taught computer graphics and design at the University of Massachusetts at Amherst and the Boston Museum School. Listen to the interview (MP3, 14:50, 6.5MB) and visit his web site to learn more about his work.

Bren, You are Haring-like in how you have made your art available to the public. What you're doing is awesome! I love having access to your interview online and learning more about your success since school. This site, including the podcast, is a terrific forum for artists to talk about and showcase their work. -Traci

Bren, Thanks for bringing more smiles to Boston and the rest of the world. And thanks to the folks at ArtFilmDesign for bringing Bren and other artists into the world of podcasting. Keep up the great job!

Thanks so much for sending me your new Podcast–congratulations. I loved hearing your voice and your telling of the way your project began and the impact it has had around the world. Around the WORLD!!, that's just so incredibly amazing to me. You are an inspiration to those of us who struggle to keep our vision pure, and to trust that by creating art that has meaning we have the potential to reach anyone!

I also perused your website and really enjoyed your new images, as well as those that seem to be your trademark. I appreciate that you have kept your paintings affordably priced, which makes them all the more accessible to everyone.
