David Tamés talks with Ned Hinkle, Creative Director of the Brattle Film Foundation. Along with Ivy Moylan he founded the organization and took over the lease of the Brattle Theatre in Harvard Square where he works on programming and marketing tasks. In October the Brattle Film Foundation launched a fundraising effort critical to the continuation of repertory film programming at the theatre. Ned talks about the theater, the challenges they face, the movie going experience, and highlights of their fundraising efforts.

Fundraising events in November and December include the Watch-A-Thon which ends with a Finish Line Party on Sunday, December 4th along with special events that weekend including a Saturday Night Twin Peaks Marathon w/ coffee and pie that counts towards Watch-A-Thon totals. On Friday, December 9 at 7:30pm they will hold a Special Benefit Preview of Screening of Memoirs of a Geisha with author Arthur Golden and producer Lucy Fisher present. On Saturday, December 10 at 12:30pm there will be a benefit screening with panel discussion of "Touching History," a film that tells the story of the legendary Tasty Diner in Harvard Square and was the subject of our first podcast. Colin Owens talks with Jeffu, the director behind the Film "Day of the Cabbage." The film is finishing post-production and will feature an all-vegetable cast, a cabbage villian and bushels of protagonists. Jeff's work is informed by Jet Li, as well as monster movies, William Wegman and others. "Day of the cabbage" will be released shortly and will be available for viewing at a film festival or farm stand near you.

David Tamés talks with Ryan Evans about comics, their language, their recent resurgence, and some aspects of their history. Recently, artists including Chris Ware, Robert Crumb, Dan Clowes, Harvey Pekar, and Joe Sacco have enjoyed a resurgence due to the popularity of adult graphic novels. Some of this has to do with movie adaptations, Ryan-Draw-v3 both superhero (The Incredible Hulk, Spiderman) and non-superhero (American Splendor, Ghost World), and book stores catering to specialized audiences and rise of the internet. Evans has taught film studies at the Art Institute of Boston at Lesley University and has lectured on the language and history of comics at the Maine College of Art and at the Cambridge Center for Adult Education, where he has two upcoming events: a lecture titled "Superheros on the Silver Screen" on February 18, 2006, and "Reading Comics," a course scheduled for the Spring term (March, 2006).
